Micropollutant testing involves performing qualitative and quantitative analysis on environmental samples, such as water and wastewater, to establish the presence of organic and inorganic contaminants of anthropogenic origin. Known for their persistency, bioaccumulation potential and toxicity, micropollutants typically occur at trace concentrations (µg/L). Sources of micropollutants include industrial chemical production/ processes, pharmaceuticals, hormones, pesticides and personal care products.
Micropollutant testing is conducted to identify pollution sources, monitor regulatory compliance, manage water quality (including drinking and water bodies) and optimise both industrial and wastewater treatment efficiency.
