Metagenomics involves the analysis of genetic material directly recovered from environmental samples such as water or soil, which are colonised by complex microbial communities. Through the extraction and sequencing of DNA, we can identify and quantify the full range of microbial genomes present.
This approach enables comprehensive insight into the diversity, composition, and functional potential of microbial populations. Unlike traditional culture-based methods, which are often limited to detecting only targeted or easily cultivable species, metagenomics provides a rapid, unbiased, and in-depth view of the entire microbial ecosystem.
Here at Therefore Environmental we utilise specialist developed in-house extraction protocols and DNA Libraries to undertake Metagenomics analysis to produce a roundel displaying the genomes identified and their percentage (%) quantification within the sample.
